Improvising, Adapting, and Overcoming: A Journey of Resilience in Business

When Cassandra Gordon & I first launched our business in 2017/2018 now known as MilTreats LLC it wasn’t easy and we had no clue what we were doing. We were brimming with enthusiasm and a vision. In 2019, reality quickly set in when we were almost hit with an almost $10,000 fine for violating 14 different codes and regulations when we decided to offer shipping while making our CRE’s in my Kitchen. Navigating the complex web of rules from the city of San Diego, the county, the state of California, and the FDA was a daunting challenge that tested our resilience from the start.

Our journey took a positive turn when we discovered Warrior Rising , an organization that helped us understand the intricacies of business and introduced us to a great network. With their guidance, we applied the principles of improvisation, adaptation, and overcoming adversity in practical ways. The military has ingrained in us, and many veteran entrepreneurs, the mindset to always be ready to pivot and find solutions in the face of uncertainty.

Just when we thought we were in the clear, we faced another hurdle: packaging issues that arose after production was already complete. It was a tough lesson in the importance of meticulous planning and attention to detail.

Today, we’re facing a new challenge: we’ve outgrown our manufacturer and distribution facility, which were one and the same. To navigate this, we’re improvising and adapting by pivoting to temporary shipping and distribution solutions while we search for a new facility.

The military has taught us that each obstacle is an opportunity to grow stronger and more resilient. Improvising, adapting, and overcoming isn’t just a mantra; it’s a way of life that continues to guide us through our entrepreneurial journey.
